be professional and fair

you are a great example, show the student fairness and professionalism

It is important to remember that our students will soon become part of the professional workforce and they need to understand that what they are learning, both educationally and observationally, is how it is in the real world.

Hi June,
It is challenging at times. On the first day make your presence as being firm, yet cordial. You do not have to say anything, firmness and cordiality will be detected from your actions.

I am quickly learning that managing a classroom and treating all students fairly (and respectfully) requires an instructor to be: fair, firm and consistent. Some students barely show respect to the instructor and classmates, so that is when the instructor really needs to practice their abilities of professionalism. It can be a challenge sometimes!

I totally agree.Paying respect simply comands respect!! The students will eventually come around!

I feel being honest and specific in our critique of the students work, helps us show our fairness and respect for their attempt.

The students really try to emulate us - we are their role models. So it is of the utmost importance we are professional and fair.
They remember everytime we slip and some may even call you on it.

Hi Michele,
I understand your perspective. There are plenty of times, I have had to bite my lips. I simply remember, "kill them with kindness."

Respecting your students is something that should be something you always do, even though there might the a student or two that don't necessairly respect you or you don't see eye to eye with. This can be so hard to do at times, especially when they are not respectful to your time, other students time or class in general.
I find being fair and professional to these students as going against the grain and at times drives me crazy... even though I do it and know that I should. This would be my biggest complaint as an instructor.

Having the respect of your students is a must and being fair and professional is a great way to get there.
