Them that can do -others teach.

I have retired and then I got the chance to teach again. that way i am able to keep up with all the new ideas and still keep active.

Hi Stacey,
See even students realize that the profession we choose is strictly by choice. As educators we can do ANYTHING we want to. Most of us choose the profession because it is truly our passion.
Patricia

I worked in the field for over 10 years before I started teaching. I use real work examples in class all the time. They appreciate that and see how the whole picture ties together. I actually had a student say to me once, "It is NOT true what they say...some who CAN do...can also teach".

The expression "those that can do, those that can't teach" is like fingernails on a chalkboard (okay, I just dated myself w/chalk board).

If it weren't for teachers, there wouldn't be people that can do!

I work with people who are at a world class level with thier skills, yet they decide to teach as this is their passion. People who come up with sayings like these are often jealous and may even be incompetent at their skills.

Hi Brian,
Simply put, as educators we can do whatever we choose to. Teaching is strictly by choice because for most of us the love we have for the profession.
Patricia

Hi Sonny,
Yes, I have shared many stories with my students over my 21-year tenure. I get from students all the time I remember when you told us the story...and I actually had a similar situation. Students remember real stories.
Patricia

Hi Patricia,

Yes, continuing to share your knowledge with students just increases their chances of being more successful in the classroom and improves their academic setting as well. Some students need more than a foundation in their academic life and others need the success stories of life itself to continue to improve and build a better education. Have you shared some experiences that students have taken from your point of view?

I have always been able to do and I have always had a desire to help and inform people. I use my teaching skills in coaching elem. wrestling and also instructing a motorcycle mechanics school.

Hi Ronald,
Teaching is very rewarding! I do not dwell on this saying at all. Teachers are highly intelligent and can do whatever they choose to.
Patricai

I have always heard it as those who can do..do
and those who can't teach.

I have worked in the advertising industry for quite a few years and have turned to teaching as a way to share my knowlege with others.

Hi Monte,
I concur. We must continue to put our profession on a pedestal. Afterall, it is the absolute best. I can do, therefore I choose to teach.
Patricia

I agree! I think it sounds insulting and I have never liked that phrase. I think I "do" so well that others need to benefit. Share the wealth!
Monte

Hi Leo,
I like your response. I can "do" as well, but I choose to teach because it is my passion. In my opinion, teaching is the most important career in the world.
Patricia

I think the expression is this:

Those that can't do, Teach.

I don't necessarily agree with this.

I "do" and teach, so I get the best of both worlds

Hi David,
I absolutely love the profession. I would rather teach than to do any other profession.
Patricia

Hi Ward,
I like how you have reworded this. We must protect our profession because it is indeed the most important profession.
Patricia

This how it actually goes: Those can do, Those that teach understand.

I on the other hand have always had the passion to teach and help others. Being young in my career as a chef, I decided to share the knowledge that I have learned thus far and continue to grow as a chef and teacher with my company. Interesting how we come from both ends of the spectrum.

Hi Jerry,
Absolutely! Continue to share your knowledge to make a better future for others. Thank you for being a dedicated educator. Congrats...
Patricia
