Getting buy in from students
Even though I know what I'm looking for, I allways get the students to participate on decisions making...
The more you allow students to ponder ideas and bring forth solutions/decisions/contributing to the decision, the more you foster respect and engagement. This not only works with students but any environment when making change, or drafting outlines, or applying basic life skills.
I disagree. With today's students if you give them an inch they take a mile. I have students who were allowed to do this in other classes, and every day it is a battle with them, because all they want to do is negotiate what is going to happen in class. I, as the instructor, set the rules, and lesson plan, not the student. Doing otherwise gives them even more of a sense of entitlement, of which most already have too much of, and makes them think they are equal with the instructor. My two cents.
Hi Meredith,
We want our students to feel like they matter, and we value their opinion.

Yes, I find if you give the students some say in what goes on they actually take more ownership of the class and feel more of a connection with the classes.
Hi Eduardo,
What a great way to let your students know that opinions matter. They really feel that they are involved in the decision making process.
