Color Coding Material
I have found that it is true that students will remember information more readily if handouts are color coded. For instance, in typing, on the first day we give students several handouts pertinent to the course: machine parts, policies,"road signs," what makes a document unmailable, etc. Each is on a different color paper so they can refer to it easily. This method has been very successful.
I have not been able to use color coding but i do see how this can be effective when stressing the importance of deadlines and assignments/ their expectations. many students always re-claify whats on syllabus or whats expected of them so i think if we took the time to color code it would be effective in pointing out the necessary.
This sounds like a really effective strategy. I think in this modern era, people have become accustomed to attractively colored and displayed materials. If an item doesn't attract the reader right away, the reader will likely read and retain far less of the content.
