Late assisgnments
What are some of the other ways instructor's can let students know that late assignments and work is unacceptable outside of docking points off?
Hi Tameka,
I agree! We need to prepare our students for the real world. Missing deadlines will not be tolerated.

Late assisgnments should not be accepted. Students need to learn how to operate in the real world and as long as we as educators coddle these students. This will never happen
Hi Jeremy,
I teach at the same type of school, excuses galore and many single mothers. These are things that will not cause them to be exempt from rules, policies, and procedures in the real world, therefore these things should not cause them to be exempt from rules at school.

I have trouble deciding where to draw the line. It seems like students have a million excuses. Where I am an instructor many of the students work full time and have families. Several of my female students are single mothers and childcare issues come up on a regular basis. I sympathize with them, but at some point I feel like I have to say no and dock them points.
I do not accept late assignments as a general rule. If you miss a quiz or are absent from class I should know about it ahead of time. If I am not notified of an emergency or their is not a legitimate reason, there is no make up.
Hi Evelyn,
This is the typical method to dock points whenever assignments are late. I've known some instructors to give one freebie where students are not docked points if they mess up one time.
