Using personal examples of how a class really was used when I got out into a real Veterinary hospital is always helpful to the students. Learning those parasites and how to recognize them under a microscope was really done to help an animal and its issue. Reading a blood smear and being able to identify low white blood cells etc. can make the difference in proper treatment versus just guessing. Students always perk up when you are talking about examples that you have experienced and how a class or part of a class really made the difference!

What i try to do in my class is show them exactly what they might see in the real world. Give them examples of the issues they will see and let them know what they will be looking for. If you put a bug in there ear about what they should see, it leaves a mark in there brains so when they see it again they will remember what was said in class.
I think that being to strict on students and blaming it on real world experience can be detrimental to students. I feel we need to take time teaching them about the real world but also show consideration to them when they have unavoidable circumstances arise.

I utilize role play to assist the students in experiencing real life scenarios. If it is available to me I will ask if I can borrow a student from anoter class and have the student run the scenario on that person they are unfamiliar with. Followed by this they receive a peer review on their performance.
I find field trips to be a great source of attaining real world experience.

I concur! Our clientel learns a lot from us, therefore we need to be extremely knowledgeable so that we can share to make others knowledgeable.

I try to show how doing a given activity will help them know how to better inform and educate their potential clientel on the same Subject.
This helps them understand the merit of really knowing a subject.
