syllabus
the syllabus is an indispansable tolls for the student at the bigining of the class, so sad that some of them even not take a look on that....
Hi Carrie,
Wow, accreditation organizations make it a requirement for each course to have a syllabus. There is certain information that must be on the syllabus. Google a syllabus and use that as a guideline, with help from your DOE. It is way too detailed to even include in this email how to begin a syllabus.

I hate to admit, I do not have a syllabus for my course but I remember those when I was in college and I used them to stay organized and check off assignments as I completed them. I am going to construct a syllabus for my next class. I am excited to have everything expected of them in one area, I think that will be a great asset for them. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started with a syllabus?
I have all of the students take out their syllabus, highlighters and pens and pencils, no other books just syllabus and we go over each and every day with them and I also post when everything is due and put it up on the back wall so there is no confusion as to when things are due. I am starting to see a huge portion of my class doing their homework and really asking a ton more questions and really getting involved with study groups do to us taking the time to inciate this syllabus time.
Hi Linda,
I agree. The syllabus is an excellent tool to refer to initially and throughout the grading period.

It is an important tool and allows the students to take a long view on what will be expected in the coming weeks. Perhaps, it might be a good idea to
bring it up again at the beginning of a new week to
focus the students on what will take place that particular week and what will be expected of them.
I have even given tests on the syllabus to get them to at least glance at it. This is particularly important for on-line classes where you can't control the situation as much as in a face-to-face class. One colleague would deduct points for each question he was asked where the answer was in the syllabus.
Hi Guillaume,
It is sad some students never take a look at the syllabus. It is always a good idea to thoroughly go over the syllabus the first day of class and answer any questions that students may have about it. Some instructors even secure students' signatures attesting that they have read and understand the syllabus.
