You need multiple strategies such as student presentations, video clips, comic strips, clip art, and role play to keep their interest and get them involved. I have three N's in education: Needs to Know!; Nice to know; and, Nuts to know. I get the Needs to know in and if time permits I try to include the nice to know but try not to include the nuts to know.
Students need to know that what they are learning is going to help them in the future in the work place and in the career they have chosen.
I use my own real life clinical experience( over20 yrs of it ) and get them involve in those situation and let them know they might come across these situations. This creates interest and gets them involve to share their oppinions as well.
