I realize that having a syllabus and reviewing the information in class helps the student to understand the course better. Also making students held accountable for deadline is a must because they will have to do the same in the real world
Hi Vatina,
Students enjoying hearing our experiences as they apply to the curriculum.

Real-Word experiences will vary depending on culture and ethnicity, however, I make sure that each student can relate to the experience that I am discussing as well as reiterating that we all experience things differently but this is what I have experienced.
Hi Vatina, I have a bit of a dual feeling on this as well. I know it is important to get students used to the expectations of the real world, but I also think the still need to understand there are expectations in the course, and turning in assignments on time is one of them.
I had an interesting discussion with a friend yesterday. She teaches math at two colleges in San Diego; one very close to the border and one closer to the affluent La Jolla area. She said she notices that the students in the southern school have a very different understand of truth, rules, and boundaries than her other students.
It seems the students whose families are in the US illegally and have fought hard to get what they have know that rules don't apply equally and will push the boundaries until they reach the point of no return. I guess what I am saying is that the real world is not the same for all of us. So we have to really get to know our students and guide them from 'school-designed' deadlines to 'real-life' deadlines.
Thanks for listening.
Hi Vatina,
Absolutely! Deadlines are made to be adhered to, not broken. Employers want/need dependable employees.
