Real World

I try to have many real world examples for my students. I tell many of my own professional career stories to help them.

Hi Joe,
Students really hone in to hear stories that are applicable to the course content. They enjoy hearing our stories/personal experiences.

I have to agree, telling students real life stories is a great way of how studetns react to it.

Hi Tracy,
You must have a poker face when these issues arise in the real world. A lot of people talk with their face; their face says it all, but you have to be careful to keep a straight face.

We really brought real world experiences into our Medical Law and Ethics class. We discussed various topics of what people will be telling you and how is your face going to respond before your voice does. It really made them stop and think that they just can't blurt out their stance on issues and they had to stay professional and not be judgemental.

I not only bring up examples of problems from past experience but put the students in the situation where they need to solve the problem. This gives them a good taste of the situations they may have ahead of them in the "Real World" and can benefit from my experience.

I had a student who started a new job on his last day of class at graduation time. He stopped in for a visit a month or so later and said "I should have listened more in class! We're doing all of those things you talked about."

I agree. I think the students really enjoy hearing the stories. I think that they can relate to some extent.

Hi Machuria,
Students want to hear our stories as to how they apply to the course content. Students need to know how it is like in the real world.
