Sometimes I ask the student to read the next powerpoint slide are sometime I ask the student to assist me with passing out papers/handouts.

Projects, group work, case studies, activities to engage them instead of lecture to motivate them.

I will look at the time if I have been lecturing for 45mins or more I will give them a break. If it happens all the time I will have that student come to my office and sit down and talk with them. I need to know if they are not understanding the work or is there something going on that needs to be addressed.

Engage the student in conversation before and after class (on a personal level). this will build trust and hopefully a professional student-teacher relationship will develop. Calling on the student in a friendly and encouraging way is also a good strategy for engaging students. Lastly, provide sincere encouragement through positive feedback.

During lectures I tend to walk around the classroom. I move from the front to the back regularly. When I lecture I look the students in the eyes. I specifically look at each student in the eyes and pay close attention to how they respond. I make them feel like I am talking straight to them.

I capture students attention by being LOUD! and interactive. Role Playing and being very active.

Typically if I have a student or students that are not being attentive I will simply stop lecturing and focus my attention at these students. Does not take long before everyone in class are looking at these students then suddenly they are all eyes and ears to my lecture. Usually I might ask if they would like to share their thoughts with the class.

I think the module did a good job of emphasizing how its important to relate information to the course to subjects that are relevant to them professionally. I think every student ultimately wants to suceed professionally. If the students see that the information learned will tie into their success and that you would like to see them succeed they can become more attentive. Also using a multimedia approach, case studies, and group activities can help capture students attention

Sometimes when I have students that don't want to participate in class or if they seem like they are in another time zone I will have the students lecture the class to get them involved. I will divide the chapter up and tell each one that next week when we meet again that they will each have to read their section and then lecture and then make a quiz and have the class take the quiz. They seem to get into this. They feel like they have some control over the class and this way they are more interested in it.

Have them do the manipulative part of a lab training aid demonstration. Relate the topic to current event examples. Avoid Back in the old days analogies.

Break open a conversation with them on something related to the lesson or lab. Bring the conversation around to the lab and how it fits into there lives as a useful learning tool.

For the students that are having trouble paying attention. I like to ask them questions and get them more involved in class, this seems to help for me.

I try to get them involved in projects

I try to capture their attention by doing something silly or putting a funny picture or meme up on the screen.
They perk up when the rest of the class starts laughing because they know they missed something funny.

As mentioned in the course content, walking up to/standing near students who are inattentive has worked well for me. I tend to walk around the classroom during lecture so it doesn't appear that I am singling someone out. Also as mentioned in course content, first I look at the course content and how I’m delivering it to see if something can be done to spice it up. I believe it is important to change things up whenever possible to keep your delivery fresh as well as to find more recent and compelling examples that might be more engaging.

I agree that a lot of the time the inattentive students are overwhelmed with the material or just do not understand it. I understand that students learn differently so I incorporate several different learning styles into my lessons. I will do some lecturing with visual aids, give students note sheets that they have to fill in as the lesson goes, and do hands on activities.

There are different ways that you can capture a students attention. 1.) you can role play with what ever topic you are teaching. 2.) Ask the students to engage with you on the topic to make it interesting to them.

The unique way that I use is o stare at them until all in the classroom stop talking and the change in sound may get their attention. in addition, I stand closer to this student to emit some kind of responce and it always works.
