unfocused students

I find that if you have a student who is having difficulty focusing, if you talk to him or her one on one and explain this is important to them and there career maybe throw a couple of real life examples out there they will start to be more attentive in class.

Hi Martha,
Field trips are great for students. They see the practical aspect based on the theoretical part that we teach in class. Students are able to gather much field trips based on things that can not be done within the classroom setting.

The guest speaker approach, as mentioned, and field trips help to show the relevancy of the material covered in the class. I have seen poor students turn their academic performance around after their interactions with professionals in the field.

i do understand that yet what if you have a student that is still continuing to be unfocused. you have pulled them aside, you have showed them what they miss if they do not pay attention, and yet they continue to be unfocused.....i do understand that everyone moves at different paces and everyone learns different yet it disrupts the class because the students being to break other class rules...

I agree with you, sometimes just having a one on one with the student does the trick. Simply remind them that they are here for a short time and by them being unfocused they will not learn what they need to know for there future career.

Hi Troy,
Sometimes a simple talk as you have suggested does the trick. We have to remind some students that they must focus in order to make it.
