Motivating students
I believe that the words that come out of instructor’s mouth to a student can motivate them or break them break. Regardless if a student is an A student or an F student our goal is to motivate everyone across the finishing line. As human, we all want praises. To keep the class exciting, guest speakers are great suggestions.
Another way of motivating students is when I break my class up into groups, I pick the student that is the least out spoken and make them group leaders. 90% of the time they tell me they don't want to be the group leader, but I tell them they have to. By the end of the day, something really sparks with them, and they say they could not believe how they were able to direct the project and make it happen. Even the students in the class, that try and take the lead during regular group times, sometimes say I thought I would be the group leader and you did not pick me. And I always say thats right, you learned another role today as well. Its very humbeling for some, and some get very excited as if they had no idea they had it in them.!!!
