Guest Speaker
As an extern coordinator what kind of Speakers would be beneficial?
teaching in a carier class is helpful to have prior students come and talk with them about how they wished they had payed more attention. And that any information given should be payed attention to be able to use during their new cariers (to be successful).

I couldn't agree more. This last term I taught a course in Criminal Investigation and Evidence. I had the opportunity to have a State Police Criminal Supervisor, a Fire Investigator and a Judge. As a matter of fact part of the course was a mock criminal investigation along with a trial which the Guest Judge presided over. The students had a wonderful learning experience and enjoyed doing it.

Absolutely, make sure the guest speaker has much to offer based on the various careers the students will be going into.

The type of Guest speaker that would be beneficial is some one in there field of choice. If medical then get some one in the Medical Field either a MD or an Office Manager
I've seen instructors line up a guest speaker every time the class meets so they can avoid class preparation.

What type of abuse have you seen from guest speakers? I am guessing, the instructor takes advantage to have someone take their place so that they can have free hours during the work day.

I do think it is valuable to bring in guest speakers, however I've seen it abused in some cases.

I surely hope your institution allows this. Guest speakers bring a different level of excitement to the classroom. Students thoroughly enjoy guest speakers.

I really like the Idea of guest speakers, i will have to go over with the school that I instruct at if we have any policies against it.

As an extern coordinator, you can get experts from the different program areas. You can also get HR people. Please do not forget about your graduates who did externs in those areas. Who do you generally use as guest speakers?
