Inappropriate vocabulary with challenging students

In my first week ever as a teacher, I noticed that some students in order to make the point across the room they used inappropriate vocabulary even after I pointed out in the beginning of the class.
So, I lead by example!!! By the second week the incident continue and I stop the class and gave them my own experience of life. They took it so personal that I did not hear any other unprofessional language.

Leading by example is crucial as well as consistency...if you let one student get away with it one time its all down hill from there

Consider that a nice easy one there. Quite often they just don't care and continue it anyway.

I find this somewhat difficult in a classroom that is based & discusses law enforcement, crime, criminality, and corrections. These environmnents are saturated with this type of language and at times the only thing a perpetrator understands is terse, foul language. Unfortunately, we are not in the business of teaching these "language arts"! We as instructors need to keep the professional button turned on and lead by example so that our students will comply. When I leave the class and find myself in the work environment I know to turn the button to that mode (still remaining professional however) and speak in a language that is aceptable in the field.

Hi Raul,
I like the idea of leading by example. These students realized that you were not going to tolerate their unprofessional language.
