Cheating Control

Cheating is easy for a student to do if the opportunity is there! Take control of your testing environment. To start I give multiple versions of the test the students take A, B, C and D. I remind the student if caught they will fail the test and take a walk to see ED manager where it could lead to suspension; I walk the room when the testing is in progress.

Right! Thanks for the ideas!

Students should be aware that when they cheat they cheat themselves..but they still do when the chance is there… I like the idea that you walk around in the classroom during test time. However, do this before, during and close to the end of the test time..because constantly patrolling the aisles could make other good students nervous..

I try to reduce cheating by helping my students be more prepared for the test. The better their preparation lessens the need for cheating.

Hi Charlie,
I agree! Cheating is a tough problem to tackle. We must continue to do all that we can to minimize cheating.

By creating a friendly and cooperative environment in the classroom, the instructor may prevent unattractive student behaviors like, cheating, anger, and silence. The student needs to see the instructor as not just the authority of the room but also approachable to discuss and clarify topics within the curriculum. Cheating is a tough problem to crack and there are many pitfalls to addressing the situation; I think the advice given in the course give the instructor additional tools to render a positive solution to the given issue

Hi Krista,
If you did not see it, then leave it alone. You can not take another student's words, however, you can watch out for this student from now on.

I have approximately 54 students in each section of amy A&P class. The way the class is set up, I can't have my eyes everywhere at once. I try to look for suspicious behavior and have tried to move around the classroom during tests, however I did have a student say she saw another student erasing something off of her desk. How do I address this issue, if it something that I did not specifically see?

Hi Alicia,
I like your institution's policy on cheating! Absolutely, when you are administering a test you should not being doing anything else, otherwise students will try to take advantage of the situation.

I have a similar way of giving out my tests. The very 1st day of class though I tell them the school policy of "you cheat, you leave". We drop students for cheating. They are allowed to come back in about a month or two. Giving different versions of the tests really do help and I found not standing in the front of the class reading or doing something else also helps the cheating be controled.
