Cheating students

I would appreciate some positive ways to handle a cheating student. I have been told by some to rip up their paper on the spot, I find that humiliating.

Using the school's policy is a good start. If it's a paper that the student is turning in and I know that it's plaigerized, then I would just give him/her a zero for the assignment. If the student is cheating during a test, I would walk up to where the student is seating and conspicuously announce to the whole class to keep their eyes on their own papers. This usually works for me.

Following school policy is essential, also letting students know that this a a serious violation of character and professionalism.

I use the school's policy regarding plagiarism, of which cheat is a part.
