Methods to reduce cheating in a full class
In my class there isn't an empty seat in the room and instructors don't have the freedom to create their own exams or have alternating "A" and "B" exams to keep wandering eyes on their own papers.
Besides zero scores and monitoring for unusual behavior indicative of cheating, what techniques can prove useful given the above scenario?
Sometimes you have to explain to students that cheating is only going to hurt them in the end. It really is a lesson that they need to learn and sometimes it takes reaffirming the lesson until some students "get it". You have to trust that the majority of the students are honest and will not cheat.
I have reseated students as they come in the door on test day and found that this helps.
Hi Brian,
Have students clear their desk and come up with a different seating arrangement on test day.
