Difficult students
What is the best way to deal with students working in groups who refuse to participate but expect to get equal credit of the groups grade?
Discuss why they are not participating and explain the importance of equal participation amoung all. I feel at the end of the group project evaluations from all students on each others performace with the project are effective.

Some students simply will not pull their weight! Having group members evaluate each other is a great idea!

I will have students evaluate the other students in their group and this will be included as part of their grade for the group project.

Have a firm private conversation with them, give them an opportunity to improve, if no improvement takes place, give the students a zero for the project.

I would talk to each group and discuss the pro and cons of the students views. the students working and participating will usually convince the non working students to participate
