How has it been working for you?

I often have students whose lives are a train wreck. When they bring their excuses, their complaints, their 'better way of doing it', I ask them, "How has your attitude been working for you so far? Are you happy? Do you have goals? Are you reaching them?" Some students have responded in a positive way once they have had a chance to step out of their lives for a moment to look into their lives. The "train wreck" student can be a very typical student. They can bring their challenges to class. Our response to them is what helps them to grow or not. If we respond in a positive way to them, we show them that even with their challenges that they can survive their "wreck"
