Share the experience

Because we are a vocational field, I find that it really lets the students know your strengths when I share with them my experiences on the first day. This sets the tone for the expectations as well

The experience you have to share with students not only helps you gain their respect, but also helps them figure out their career path. Students often approach me after class on the first day to let me know how my experience can help them in their career path.

Hi Kathy,
It is nothing like speaking from real life experience. I am sure you are able to share with your students the good and bad of the profession. Students need to know this type of information going into the workplace.

I too like to share my on job experience it show's them that this is real and what really dose happen out. I always get dose this happen from students and I can tell them yes it really happens.

Hi Lucille,
I use a similar speil with my students. I let them know that the classroom is where they want to make the mistakes so that when they get out into the workplace they know exactly how it is to be done.

I agree... they like to heat that you are a "human" and make mistakes. I always tell my students that this is their chace to make mistakes so when they get into the field, they have them all under thrie belt!

I find sharing experiences a great way to show students past imperfections and show that not all instructors are perfect.
