Instructors
All instructors must be confident in their ability to teach and advanced preparation with ensure a positive classroom experience.
I agree, you have to put your best foot forward. You have to make sure that you are organized and ready for questions from your students.
Hi Gilbert,
Establish control on Day 1 and never let students take control. You must be the authoritative figure in the classroom at all times.

I experienced this very thing just recently.Instead of me being in control of the class, the class was in control. It was midway through the course the realization hit me and nothing I could do to get my control back. I was just glad when it all ended.
I like having older students. They know why they are attending class. and, they will strive to meet their goals. They do appreciate what you do.
Diane,
I agree that instructors must be confident in their ability to teach, but that is not always the case. I have seen instructors actually lose confidence with themselves after meeting their prospective students. I don't know why, but the instructor became intimidated with the demographics of the class and kind of "lost his footing", if you will.
I have found that students, especially the older ones who haven't been to school in ages, aren't concerned so much about the instructor as they are about their own ability and confidence.
