Being professional at all times yet being consistant in the classroom
I have problems being consistant in the classroom at all times. Some of my students have to work and their work demands that they work overtime to keep their job while other students are in the classroom every day on time. I realize that the students who have to work must work yet is this fair to the other studetns?
I follow the attendence policy at our school and go over the policy on the first day of class. Clarifying expectations up front has made enforcing the policy more consistant.

I have thrown pizza parties for my classes if they have 100% attendance for the entire module. Students love to be awarded.

It can be a challenge when the institution wants students to succeed. I have had to practice this positive reinforcement all quarter.
Hi Mary, I agree with Patrica I do stick to the schools attendance policy but I have also tried to give incentives for students that come on time and all week. Christina Mills

At my institution we have an attendance policy for issues such as these. I do understand everybody's situation is different, but I simply abide by the policy to avoid deciding what is fair or unfair.
