Student Perception

It never ceases to amaze me not matter how consistent you are as an instructor, student perceptions are unpredictable; reinforcement of the role as the instructor versus the role of the student has helped clear up confusion

Hi John,
Students need to know what their role is as a student. Students should not be able to cross the line. Crossing the line creates way too many problems.
Patricia

Yes very good. I think this is something I can improve on. It is very important to let your students know your expectations from them. Defined roles allows people to find a comfort zone within the classroom and sets clear cut boundaries at the same time. Thanks.

I'm learning this as a new instructor myself. Word gets back from other instructors, as to what students are saying. Sometimes it can be helpful, you see they are right, and work to improve. Other times it's more about your personality, but not much you can do about that. I always hope to be kind and approachable, but realized I had been perceived differently when a student came afterwards and apologized for questioning me. I assured her no offense was taken and I welcomed the questions.

Hi Rustin,
We have to teach so that we reach all learning styles. We do not want to leave any student out.
Patricia

I have to agree with this. There are as many different learning styles as there are students.
I go with their flow and adjust accordingly to these different learning styles.

Hi Anne-Marie,
We are who we are, students will peceive you differently; this is human nature.
