Lecturing as if there were no one there.

One of my first lectures went on for 45 minutes with no break for questions or allow the students to become involved.
Boy, did I learn the hard way ! Fortunately it happened in my first day of teaching.

When I observe that some students begin to focus their attention elsewhere, I think of a joke or a funny experience that I can relate to the topic I am teaching and that gets back their focus.

I try and break it up into 10-15min and then try and get them engaged. I may even move off topic for a few minutes just to keep them focused.

Hi R Lee,
As the instructor you have to make sure to stay on task. I love to talk as well, but you have to end it at some point so that you do not fall behind, and also you may have to take limited questions/stories from students in order to stay on task.

Hi Roy,

I was guilty of getting on a roll and loosing track of time when I first started teaching. I finally asked the students what they first thought and they were surprised that I could talk that long without stopping to breath.

Kind Regards,
Lee
