New teacher

I am a fairly new instructor, and I could relate to this section very much. I feel as though I will use some of these helpful tips I read in this module.

Hi JoAnn,
I have observed that new teachers are more effective if they have a mentor and/or is given the opportunity to team teach.
Patricia

More sound advice. Thank you!!
JoAnn

Hi JoAnn,
You director gave you a tip that saved you, if you followed it. Announcing that it is your first time teaching is irrelevant. Show the students you know the subject matter, you care about them, you're confident, you're prepared, and a true professional, and they will think you have been teaching for years.
Patricia

I am five years "new" to academia, and I still remember how nervous I felt during the first lecture. My Program Director gave me a valuable tip: "Your credibility and confidence are at risk if you announce that it is your first teaching experience." Knowing the subject matter and how to disseminate it is what matters most.
