What is the best way to handle first day jitters?

What are some steps you take to walk into a classroom as the confident instructor your students need?

Hi Lynn,
It is better to have too much than to not have enough planned for the lesson. Preparation is key.

I have to agree strongly. I always have the most confidence when I have over prepared. I would rather not have time to get to everything planned than to run dry before the end of the class. And just like kids, many times adult students need to be kept busy. Depending on the learning styles within one class, an instructor may need to "diversify" in order to keep students interested and engaged.

Hi James,
Preparation is key and being over prepared is even better! I like to prepare at least a week advanced for the courses I teach.
Patricia

By over preparation. Having spent more than enough time reviewing your lesson plan and materials and more topics than you think you can cover in a single class you insure you will be ready for anything that happens.

Hi Darren,
When you walk in make a strong presence by being prepared, knowledgeable, professional, and organized. Share your qualifications.
