Learning students' names
I love the concept mentioned about learning students' names. I pride myself in learning and remembering all of my students' names. I tell the the first day of class that I will learn all of their names by the second week of class and I stick to it. For those names that are difficult to pronounce or faces that are difficult to remember, it almost becomes a game between us to see hoe long it will take me before I actually get it right. Usually the students are impressed at how quickly I learn the names; and it makes me seem more real and human when I can't remember a couple.
I think it is very important to know the names of your students.I normally prepare a name tag for every student and as we do introduction I try remember their names. There are times when I will ask a student to teach me their name pronunciation and I think it is something you want to improve at.
Learning the student's names is a great way to build rapport with them and show them that they are not just a class, but a bunch of different individuals.
Hi James,
Learing this type of personal information is very innocent in nature. Students need to know that we are personable/approachable, yet professional.

In addition to learning their names I feel it's very importmant to learn sometime personal about them, such as, a sport they play or music they like.
Hi Tamara,
This is a fun way and a good way to get everyone involved in learning each other's names. Students retain more when learning is fun.

As a first day of class ice breaker, I introduce myself and have all the students do the same. Once everyone has introduced themselves, I make it a game for the students to try and remember all of the class members names also.
Hi Desiree,
We need to make it a point to remember our students names. I am very good with names, and I always impress my students by knowing every students name before the end of the period.

Hi Diana,
I like it, and I especially like how you make the last person you so that you can test your knowledge of knowig all of your students names. Students love to know that the instructor knows them by name.

I love learning the students names. at the beginning of the first class I play the name game, this helps me learn their names as well as each others! You take the first letter of thier first name think of a word that discribes that person that starts with that letter. so desiree could be darling desiree, or sara could be sweet sara. ambitious amy....so on and so on. Then the frist person says their name and then the second person says their name and the first persons name. the last person ends up saying everyones name and I always make the last person me! good luck!
