Instructor Experince

How do I properly introduce myself to my class giving them my credentials without sounding pompous?

I think that taking the time in the first class to explain your experiences in the field helps students become at ease that they are being guided by a credible instructor. However, if you use this time just to talk about yourself, you may lose your students. Also, ask your students what major they are pursuing and what they would like to do in their field upon completion. Some of them may already have lots of experience as interns, etc. Give them a chance to "show off" their expertise as well. I think this will help you in connecting with your students on the first day, while explaining your own expertise.

Hi Elinore,
Students can quickly tell if you know your stuff! Experience is the best teacher.

Hello Robert-
I am a Medical Assistant instructor. I have been a MA for the past eight years and have worked in many different MA settings. When I introduce myself to my new students I simply explain where I went to school and what degree I earned. I then go on to explain come interesting events I have experienced to catch their attention. I feel using events as expamples you are grabbing their attention and making them realize you do know what you are talking about without throwing it in their faces.
