I believe we should always look, act and dress the part. Portraying a professional image goes a long way.
be a professional at all times, then you do nmto have to worry about the image.
A proefssional demeanor is critical in front of a group of people that expect you to be set the standard
The most important thing I have observed is class preparation. If I'm really prepared and have everthing in order I feel it and I know my image is received well, however, if I have not done my homework I can see just the opposite.

I think you can tell students how long you been in the field they are studying, share some stories about being in the field, and offer to write letters of recommendations for students who do well in the course and who will need a letter of recommendation to enter their career field. You could also take an active role in helping students study the material (make class a interesting and fun experience).
Think back when you were inschool to a good instructor you had and what made you think they were a good instructor and use that to help yourself.
Know your material, remember the names of your students, and be prepard for the class.
Hi Carol,
You have a great advantage. You can talk to students from a pratical experience standpoint.
Patricia
I like to start the class by introducing myself and letting them know how long i have been in the field and also the different types of experiences I have had. I also let them know how much I respect the field they are going into and that I still enjoy both teaching and working in my field.
Be on time, dress professionally, provide a structure for the class time,be consistant be fair and laugh at your self.

Be organized and well prepared. Share your professional background, years of experience in the field and tell why you love that field. Then explain why you are there to teach that field, and that your goal for them is to find the same or greater success in that field.
Hi Patricio,
I agree. The classroom is no place for you to discuss your personal problems. Students are there to learn not to be your personal counselor.
Patricia
Hi LeAnn,
You make the student feel very special whenever the email is personalized.
Patricia
Hi Deborah,
It is important to share the proper dress with students.
Patricia
Hi Deborah,
Students can teach us a lot. It is amazing what I have learned from my students over the last 21 years.
Patricia
Hi Augustine,
Great job on sending personalized welcomes! Students want to be personalized not generalized.
Patricia
Hi Andrea,
Students want to know that you care about them.
Patricia
State your experience in the topic and present yourself as a professional educator. Make sure they are aware of your dedication to their education and success.
It is important to create a positive image for the class. I have taught both in traditional and online environments. In the online environment (currently teaching), the students have access to the learning materials some three days before the start of class. The course outline, together with information on course expectations, is available to the students. I have made it a personal habit to send out welcome messages to each student (not a generalized welcome).
Christina,
I learn something from my students every day and I share what I learned from them usually as a wrap-up at the end of a term.

Many of my students are allied health practitioners who are making the transition from the clinical side of health care to the business or financial side. They generally work in scrubs and other types of uniforms
The health care industry has a tendency to have a more lenient dress code than most industries. However, I work in health care financial operations which is very different from the clinical end.
In my classroom I always come professionally dressed and I discuss the differences and the importance of presenting a professional image, especially when dealing with clinical personnel
