I start a class with introductions, and an explanation about my career , and ask the students to share their professional experience. Later we review the sylabus and use some ice breaker to start the class.
I too go over what I will be doing in class. I write myself an outline, so I will not miss anything. I also write an abbreviated form up on the board so they students can see the topics as I adress each one, or ask questions about any topic. I then go on to my powerpoint for the day, which the students have access to on the computer. I discuss in general what the topic will be for the day and how it impacts on their practice, or how it will be important to them.

In addition to having twice the material ready to deliver up front, I also try and think of all the possible questions my students might have for me. Personally, my biggest anxiety factor is being asked a question for which I don't have an answer.
Sitting in on another teacher's instruction of the same class also helps reduce nerves because you get a feel for the vibe of the class and what you can expect.
Hi Maikel,
Have a daily lesson plan, and prepare thoroughly to minimize anxiety.
Patricia
As managers the best way for us to help reduce pre class anxiety is to give our instructors all the tools they need to do their jobs. Including time. Time is a major issue and being unable to prepare for a class will creat major anxiety.
There are several ways to reduce anxiety and nerves in the first class is the preparation of the instructor, but is good cause anxiety, it is safer to be prepared in the content we provide, that increases self-confidence and reduces anxiety, also plotting strategies in the classroom to help us as well as a previous plan to follow
Start the class with an ice breaker. This helps reduce anxiety for the instructor as well as the students

Hi Franklin,
Purpose will sell a student on a course. Students need to know how they are going to benefit from the course.
Patricia
I tell myself they are just as nervose and I am! I go in the room and just try my best!
Absolutely, I always tie in what the purpose of the course is to their reason for wanting to be in the class

Hi Justin,

Hi Donna,
Videotaping is a great way for an instructor to critique their delivery style.
Patricia
Hi Franklin,
Students form bonds from this type of activity. It is important for students to know the purpose of the course.
Patricia
I like to start off with getting some of the students to talk about themselves and why they are in the class. The latter I find helps create a bond between the students since they are usually all there for similar reasons. I then use that to segue way into my own experiences and then into what we are in class for. By the time I start the lecture I feel super ready
Videotaping one of my lectures was the best way to understand how I lecture and see what the student sees. It was a learning experience.
Preperation is the answer for me. If I go into a class prepared with my plan for the day and alternate assignments, I feel my anxiety levels stay low.
Hi Timothy,
You are no doubt qualified, otherwise you would not have been offered the position. Prepare and you will be a winner!
Patricia
Hi Rasiel,
