PROFESSIONALISM - NOT BY WORDS BUT BY EXAMPLES
A professional teacher leads students and colleagues by his or her example:
One who is prepared for any difficulties and adversities inside and outside the classroom, one who acknowledges and rectifies and learns from mistakes; acknowledges the beauty of diversity (language, cultural barriers, socio-economic and personality differences) of students and colleagues.
A professional teacher is prepared for these difficulties will be able to overcome them.
Not by words, but by example.
Emma--Fantastic. It is sometimes difficult to be prepared for any and all problems that may occur in the classroom, but I feel that sound thinking, stepping back from a difficult situation and/or taking a student aside to discuss a particular issue, gives me a better perspective and allows me to handle issues in a manner that lets students see I am a professional.
Hi Hortencia,
I love your outlook! You certainly lead by example! Actions speak louder than words! Continue to be a great role model!
Patricia
Hello,
...I begin my journey with my appearance. Hair (natural color)pulled back from the face, light make-up, a pair of conservative ear-rings,a second hand watch, nails colorless and trim, uniform is neat and well fited and the standard white shoes! Do I have to dress this way? NO, but it makes a big impression on my students because it sts the tone for "not by words but by example"
Hi,
We do energize eather too even by words such as thse and such as yours!
Sincerely
Emma
Hi Emma,
Great response! Instructors can conquer it all, and we are great role models because we simply lead by example.
Patricia
Hi Richard,
I concur! We should be the professional that we want our students to become. Lead by example.
Patricia
Emma, I like and agree with the message you provided above. Providing a professional image is hugely important, in my opinion, and it helps to frame the proper environment conducive to learning. Students behave and interact depending on the behavior and level of professionalism exuded by the instructor, so having your stuff together will at the least, encourage the correct enviornment, and may encourage students to emulate your behavior and attitude.
