Everyone wants to be the best instructor

I have been teaching for 3 years now, (I know it's not very long) but when I first started I was scared to mess up. I didn't know how it would be to stand infront of a large group of people and lecture or teach. Maybe if I was prepared better by my director at the time I would have felt a little more confidance??

Mentors are great, however at some point after years of teaching and receiving feedback from other educators, I decided to adopt a teaching method that best fits my personality, my knowledge base, and my clinical experience. Rather than trying to mimic other educators I eventually found a level of success and student satisfaction by being more authentic and using the tool of storytelling. One of the ways I discovered this was by asking students at the end of each class to tell me what they found helpful, insightful, and inspirational as well as informative. They always replied, "Once you told us your stories,we never forgot the mental disorders, symptoms, treatments, and medications". Thanks, marie

Hi Arlene,
Preparation is key, and it is always good to have a mentor if you are new.
