Wanting the students to like you
You will never get all of the students to like you. What you need to do is have them respect you. I think that is more important.
I agree stacy! Im hard on my students at times and very direct with them. I think most adults respect honesty. I can only hope they like and respect what i have taught them.
I agree, although I do find that respect and appreciation are heavily correlated. If you make sure to create a warm, friendly environment, treat students like adults, use kind language, and demonstrate expertise in your subject, students usually like you as an instructor as well.

ABSOLUTELY!! We are not in teaching for a popularity contest. We are in the profession to change lives for the better. Respect is certainly more important than being liked.
