it is better to respected than like

i loved this statement. and well mention about as instructor how to handle class to get respect from students

Hi Heather,
I certainly understand your perspective. Sometimes students least favorite instructor become their favorite instructor because they finally get it that the instructor was doing what was done for the best interest of the student.

With my experience in teaching I have learned that even student who don't "like" me can respect me. With time, that respect can even turn to liking someone when they understand why an instructor does what they do.

Hi Jacqueline,
Well said! Being respected is far better than being liked.

I too feel it is better to be respected than liked, student don't have to like you but they do need to respect you and your classroom. I am a strict instructor and I have found that some student don't like that, if I can gain their trust, by teaching them something and always being responsible when I say I will have their assignments graded or starting class on time, making sure they are getting the most for what they have paid for, it seems as they seem to come around and later they thank you for being strong and helping them to learn the needed material for them to pass their state boards or just the class. So yes it is better to be respected than to be liked.

Hi Dinesh,
Respect is a must, being liked is nice. Demand respect over being liked, and in turn, give respect to your students.
