Professional background

Students should know about your educational and professional background.

I couldn't agree more. The reason students went to my school (a career school) is to be taught by industry professionals. I believe that the students want to know what the latest industry practices are so that they can develop the relevant skills to ultimately land them a job.
I think it only helps when an instructor spends time in class educating the students about the instructor's background and relevant skills.

Agreed. I work at a music technology college and if the students know you have experience in the same field that they are pursuing, they are more apt to respect the instructor.

Revealing details about your professional background establishes that you as their instructor have a have a high level of expertise in your field. Doing so fosters a sense of trust among the students because they know you will be able to provide them with real world work experiences and industry knowledge that they need to excell in their course work and later in their careers.

I agree! I am new at teaching but is so very important that I let my students know that I have over 30 years experience in my field.
