Hi Israel,
Each time you teach a lesson you will pick up something to help you become better the next time! Teaching is like this, the more you do it, the better you will become.

Hi Lynette,
Students can certainly help you develop into an awesome instructor!

In being at a professional level in my own career for the past 20+ years. I find pre prepping for each day includes letting the sudents know and see the expierence level they are recieving in labs from myself really helps.
I do agree that knowing you will make mistakes takes the edge off ,and by also going and reviewing the material not only does it help but you learn something new that you might not have gotten the first time you tought this lecture.
I like to evaluate my lesson plans in the same way. I find that my students often come up with wonderful suggestions to enhance my classes - a great quote from a movie or an informative YouTube video, for example. They might also have insights that I hadn't thought up - I note those as well.
Hi Jennifer,
This is also a good way to help you remember your students names.

I will plan out lesson plans and also have 30 mins, of extra activies for students who finish classwork. In planning ahead and being prepared I think this reduces my anxiety.
i use an ice breaker question.. and go around the room and ask the students to identify one adj about them selves.. it works everytime
I feel the best way to overcome pre-class nerves and anxiety is preparation. My grandfather always had me practice the 5 P's - Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. Always practice your lesson plan/lecture a couple times, note examples you will use to help the student understand the points you are making, and note the time of where you should be in your lesson/lecture to make sure you are staying on task or when you need to expand. The other thing is to remind yourself that you are the expert in the field, and with that you will exude confidence rather than fear or anxiety.
I try to make sure I am prepared and organized with a creative schedule. If I stick to a schedule is tends to create a more tentative group which ease my nerves a bit. Positive self talk and talking to other teachers helps. It is also helpful if you know a little about the type of students you are about to work with to prepare yourself.
I have found that reviewing the material you wish to cover the night before helps. As well as, arriving to school, 20-30 minutes before class starts to prep class and review material helps.
Hi Sherri,
Students really love it when they can have a study guide. They feel more secure and ready with a study guide.

The only way I know is to over prepare. This class emphasized that as well. Read all the material and KNOW it, Have organized power point presentations and activities. Have all your supplies needed for lab and or lecture. Also, I like to hand out study notes of key items. The students seem to really like that!

Be prepared and diaprhamic breathing helps.
Hi Jill,
Awesome on your part! You are a hard worker and true professional. You want to give your students their money's worth. A prepared instructor makes for a better instructor, thus producing a better student.

Hi Eric,
Preparation is a must! Students will pick up quickly when you are unprepared, and then problems will begin to arise.

Being prepared for class makes a world of difference. I expect my students to be prepared for class by reading the text and/or completing homework assignments. They should expect the same from their instructor, an instructor who is prepared to present to the class in an organized adn professional manner.
My first round of students was quite nerve racking. The prior instructor left nothing more than a thumbdrive with a few power point presentations and student versions of the text books. It was all I could do to get adjusted to teaching, settle into a new job and read the subject text 15 minutes ahead of the students. I was unprepared in so many ways! This second round (I receive a full class of new students every 6 weeks), I am more prepared. I know the subjects to be covered and have researched better ways to present the material and have added class activities. I have the hard copy and electronic materials to prove it. It was a lot of work but I am much more prepared and should someone need to follow in my foot steps, the information is at their finger tips.
Preparation the night before for your class is key. If you schedule each class to fit all the topics that need to be covered for that day, then you should have no down time and will be mentally occupied throughout the class.
I agree with the remarks regarding this topic. Being prepared prior to class session is smart. standing in front of a class and attempting to teach a topic that you are not prepared for will not gain the confindence the students need in their instructor. Being prepared is the key.
Being prepared, take deep breaths prior class and when actually teaching speak slowly and clearly. Do not over prepare. Make sure you have quality time to yourself to promote a calm and collected, listening and observant attitude to each student.
