Professional Dress

Should your place of employment dictate what you should wear?

Hi Tammy,
I too have this same belief. As educators, we need to look and act the part as educators.

I believe a well dressed, well mannered instructor sets the tone for the entire class.

Yes! As an instructor you need to should your students that you take pride in yourself and what you do. This also shows respect to your students as well.

My school has a dress code for every disciple. The school logo is embroidered on either dress shirts, polo shirts, or scrubs. We have professional day on Wednesdays. As a Business instructor I dress accordingly.

Yes it seems to set the tone for the school, as a diesel instructor I must dress the part. Clean uniform, tucked in shirt, proper shoes. I set the example for the student to model.

Hi Ronald,
My institution has a dress code for students that is strictly enforced. Students must dress business casual. If students have to dress a certain way, the instructor needs to be a step higher with dress than students. We are some of our students only role model.

Dressing professionally lets students know that boundaries have been set. STudents at our college wear scrubs and I generally dress in slacks and at least collared shirt.

Hi Sandra,
I feel as though employees should have a dress code. Some employees will come in looking very unprofessional if there are no standards.
