Active Learning Strategies

Do you have a favorite active learning strategy you would like to share with the group?
thanks...

In my classrooms, I do my best to use 3-4 types of teaching techniques in an attempt to fit all types of learners( visual, auditory, kinesthetic....) By doing so, I want to make sure I use all strategies when time permits to get the concepts across clear for each and every student.
As much as the class/subject permits, I do the following:
1) Lecturing
2) Documentary films streaming relevant to the class
3) Workshop
4) Shared experience on the concepts when possible

Ryan, my intent was not to limit any comments so I apologize if that is what you took away from my comments. I would suggest you take a look at the MaxKnowledge Lounge located at www.careercollegelounge.com/. You can participate in many conversations discussing many aspects of teaching methodologies and you can even create your own blog area where you can gain some great insight into what other instructors are doing within their classrooms. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

I realize they are not a one size fits all scenario. It is not counter productive to hear what other teachers like to use. Maybe they have techniques I have never used before. OR, they have a tweak. I appreciate you being a sounding board for ideas. I would really like to hear what others are interested in using and how they use them. Saying a question is counter productive may discourage others from commenting and sharing their ideas.

Ryan, the point of active learning is not one size fits all so to speak of a favorite would be counter productive. The goal is to get to know your students and what makes them tick. Use your knowledge of your students to engage them in activities they have mentioned they enjoy. For some it will be classroom discussions, for others it may include incorporating current events into the lesson plan, others may enjoy classroom learning games. You can also incorporate field trips, guest speakers, interactive labs, case studies and the list goes on. I am happy to be a sounding board for you so if you would like to send me some additional information about your course(s) and the profiles of your students I would be happy to suggest some more specific ideas.
