Managing students

I always try to keep control of my class, to help manage the classroom.

Managing students, in my particular classroom setting, can be quite tricky. I have recent high school graduates, retired military and retired men and women. Sometimes, I have 3 different generations of people in my classroom that I have to manage. Classes last for only 3 weeks and in that short time, I have to be able to lead and control the class and adapt to the ever changing personalities I encounter. There are very childish, “time out” type of students retired PTSD military students, all with their own idea of what discipline should be. Balancing all of these individuals is critical to successfully managing and controlling the classroom setting. Not everything in this module applies to all the cases I see but I often will individualize situations as the need arises to the different personalities I encounter.

Hi Ms. Rascoe,

Classroom management is extremely important and in some instances, it can be challenging. The adult learner expects the instructor to have control of the classroom while assisting them with their learning styles. Already being adults, adults learners are easily irritated when fellow classmates become distracting. It is great that you have great classroom managing skills. Thanks for sharing.
