Getting students involved, helping them to work through an ideal or solution. Guiding is important.
The first day, the Syllabus day, is a very important day to establish a good, healthy, strong bond (onset of a journey) with the students. Also, I like the idea of having ice-breaker exercies. I am so glad to know about how students own the expectations part of the course and how we help them visualize them. Being firm is important too!
Making the class structure to where students feel a personal investment towards their career is a great way to generate interest in a class. Also breaking the ice helps with initial anxiety.
I appreciate the encouragement to remain firm with rules and expectations. Especially in regards to turning in late assignments.
I want to utilize more ice breakers to help the class get to know one another and get to know me.
Provide team builders for motivation and to get to know each other. Set boundaries from the beginning with grading and late assignments. Always make notes about what is worked well in the class and failures with lesson plans for future classes.
ice breakers
assignment due reminders
missed assignment expectations, penalties, etc
Be a role model and provide reminders about upcoming due dates, etc
I always enjoy icebreakers because it allows me to get to know my class (and helps me remember names). I have a better understanding of what needs to be outlined clearly in the syllabus to support student success and limit any confusion.
I've learned to set standards review the syllabus and make sure students know what is required of them and what expectations I have from the students.
Letting the students know the instructor's expectations and when to draw the line in the sand.
Setting clear expectations at the beginning of the course sets the tone for the entire school year.
It is important to have a good syllabus l,to avoid any miscommunication.
I like to try to get to know my students on the first day of class. I usually ask them to tell the class something about themselves. If time permits we may do an activity.
It is very important students understand grading system. They need to know what assignments are weighted heavily so they understand what they need to focus their time on. Also professionals are expected to complete projects/work within expected time frames. Students need to understand this professional behavior is expected of class work. They need to develop good work behaviors.
Be a supportive and encouraging presence to your students
I learned how student management also includes class management which includes managing the physical setting and educational experience. It is important to reach every student using varies teaching strategies.
The syllabus is a key component in setting expectations for students. I always review the course syllabus during the first class session. It is also important to check for student comprehension of course assignments and expectations. Provide ample opportunity for students to ask questions in order to clarify anything they do not understand.

Not to forget that; "Students most frequently give as a reason not knowing the due date. By having the due dates in the syllabus, on the board, and verbal reminders, students should have no excuse for not knowing the deadline date. These reminders will also protect you, if there is a complaint filed by a student."
I learned alot about the icebreaker and about the late policy - I intend to use both in the upcoming semester.
When facilitating discussions, help students to recognize they can share their experience even if they don't have expertise on the subject. As the teacher, help explain or rephrase my understanding of what the student is saying and how it may tie into a bigger concept.
