I would want to be a learner in my class because there are so many student who have different learning styles. The more I teach a class, I learn these different types of styles and apply them to the lesson plan. I do several different things such as play games like Med Term Bingo, I have group projects to come up with a Medical Term story with a leader from the group presenting. I have lecture with review of all words to keep the students active in the discussion.
Linda,I agree. If you are a good learner in your class, then you are modeling how the students can be a good learner, too.

I would like to be a learner in my classroom because everyone can learn something they have not known before. As an instructor I must research and prepare myself for more knowledge and understanding of my subjects. Even though, I have my degree Research and knowledge is added every day, so for that reason I love being a learner in the classroom.
Jeanne, I live this real world approach and know that you are teaching you students to think. It is the most valuable skill we can give them.

I would like to be a learner in my class because I use real live stories of clients and situations that have occurred, some positive and some not and give the students a chance to ask questions, share ideas, and offer ideas on different ways to handle these situations. I have made and adapted some case studies that I use as learning activities with small groups. I have several specific areas related to the main subject that each small group is instructed to develop and manage and then present their cases, concerns, ideas, interventions and outcomes to their fellow students. I also try to stimulate class discussion on "what if's" to show them how even a few changes in the scenario can change the picture and the outcomes.
Damien, it is quite telling to be able to be your own student.

To see where I can improve and what things just don't work well
Bobbi, I love this wonderful visual image you correlate to the prefix. I'm sure your students will remember this for a long time.

Dana, I'm glad you have this activity planned for your students.

Marie, if you can find a way to review without your students focusing on it and make it fun, you will have successful learning.

I would like to be a learner in my own class because I always try to keep things going and introduce new word and items that coraspond with what I am teaching. Sometime the things I introduce are so silly they are hard to forget. For example, for the medical term hepat meaning liver.. I draw a man patting a liver like a father would his child. This helps to remember that he pat or hepat/ means liver. Makes learning intersting!
I like to play jeopardy with the students so they're exposed to medical terminology over and over...
I like to repeate information I review the information in different form I also make it fun for the student
I make my class very exciting, it fun, and my student are able to remember the information
Sally, it is important to involve the students in a variety of ways. Sounds like you are doing that.

I am a facilitator type of teacher. Since I am more of an handson type of student, this is the type of teacher I prefer. Cooperative, collaborative activities is how I learn. However, I am aware that not all students like this approach, so I try to differentiate to different learning styles.
Margaret, thank you for sharing your real world job experience with your students.

I would want to be a learner in my own class, because I want my students to understand what I am teaching them. I make things interesting for my students by sharing my experiences on the field so that with this information it will help them become better medical assistants and set them up for the real world out there. From sharing these experiences with my students it helps them yo know what is expected of them when they enter the Medical Field.

William, your teaching philosophy is one students can identify with, and this approach makes it easier for them to relate to you.

I love to tell stories related to the material being taught - it's usually based on a personal experience where I messed up. It makes them laugh and hpoefully decreases their stress of 'messing up' in class. I also praise them if they can catch me making a mistake - sometimes on purpose - some times not.
