Thes are some great ideas. I can't wait to try the "concentration" game in class. I used to love playing this as a child! I have used some crossword puzzles that are in the textbook, but I like the idea of having some new ones from online sofware. I also use the game "Hangman" to reinforce terminology. The students can get fairly competitive with this and it works well with a small class.
I think I will try a crossword or a word search. That should be an interesting thing to help them recognize information.
I usually do not use word searches or crossword puzzles in my class. I never considered them worthwhile. I am so very glad you explained their benefit, because now I plan on trying them out.
Felicia, I'm glad you like this idea and that you can incorporate it into your classes in the new year.

I have always used crossword puzzles and hang man in Medical Terminology Classes. But I really like the football one now because I can create thinking questions and they will earn yards or points. This was great.
I have used word searches and crossword puzzles as part of their homework packets. Sometimes students find words that are not part of that particular puzzle.
Victoria, I appreciate your positive words and am glad you may be able to adapt these for your use as a tutor.

I am a tutor, not an instructor, and I have been looking for ideas (quizzes, games, etc.) to help with information retention for the students I work with as well as for instructors to potentially use that they can adapt for various classes. There are some great ideas provided in this unit. Thanks.
Debra, your method allows for reinforcement and let's each learner set the pace.

I use word search and crossword puzzles in my class I give the students a packet of activities during the first day of class and in the packet it gives direction on when and what to do and that it is to be turned into me on the last day of class for a completion grade and prizes. They must bring it to class every day for hints etc.
Some students take longer than others to complete tests/quizzes. Using the crossword puzzles is a effective way to keep the students quiet and productive while we wait for all students to be done.

I think that providing different types of course activities can appeal to all students. I like to mix up the activites between individual and group activities.
I think it is great to use a variation in the course activity. I use word searches for their spelling words, and it really helps them learn the correct spelling of the word. I also use crossword puzzle on topics that I do not have time to go deeper on and they continue to learn in a fun way. It's great to use games or puzzles because it steps outside the traditional book work and I believe they accomplish ore when they are having fun and learning.
Danielle, it is best to use a variety of activities and methods to teach and reinforce content.
