Course Delivery | Origin: EL102

This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Online Teaching Techniques --> Course Delivery

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

I think one of the most useful points was making sure to do your best to minimize learner frustration through instructor support, technical support, and preparation of the instructor.

I learned that thorough knowledge of the delivery system is key. Being able to put yourself in the shoes of the student and what they can possibly go through will make it easier to assist them if a problem arrises. Making sure they follow the module plan is extreamely important, so that progress can be tracked and feedback can be streamlined

I have learned about the varios forms of communication with students or different people online, to have a succesful relation with them.

Famaliarity with the CMS used will help in delivering the ideal enviroment for each student.

Dropping students from discussion threads is a new suggestion I haven't heard of before

To help the students succeed, the instructor needs to be present, engaged, and organized.

It's just as important to respond to student questions in an online environment as it is in an in-person environment.  Professors need to familiarize themselves with the technology they are using.

General review, always beneficial in remembering the structures realted to online learning

Despite the convenience of sending an email, there is simply too much room for miscommunication and no immediate feedback to correct such misunderstanding. Face to face conversation with proper use of "guardrails" is ideal.

I think it best to be very familiar with the content. Be organized with clear and concese modules and be ready to answer any questions the students have.

I will be available 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm to answer any questions or concerns the students may have through email, text and REMIND messaging. Encourage students to participate in class discussion. Give extrea points or incentive to students actively participating in class discussion.

The CMS is the most important aspect of the Online Delivery System. If the student or faculty member does is not familiar with the tools available they are not maximizing the experience. Also if the CMS does not function correctly, the experience for everyone can be very frustrating. Good training for students and faculty is very important.

It is important to have both instructor and technical support easily available for online learning; as students may have the need for both of these resources at different times within a learning event.

There is a wealth of support. You need only ask.

Don't post something in writting that is not correct. Just like it said you could make the news if it's bad. proofread and double check!

I have learned that it is essential to decide the best mode of communication depending on the person and the situation. A phone call may be more productive than an email. It is essential to take a moment and evaluate the best communication method and to prepare and plan a guideline that feels natural and not too scripted.

Online learners are most comfortable when they feel that there is a person behind the computer  screen to support them.

I learned how important understanding the authors intent, for consistency each instructor is teaching the same content.

No matter the delivery method, always be prepared!  Know your audience!  Proof read all written communications, read it as if you are the receipient, and think... Should I hit send?
