I need to get the students engaged.

I learned that feedback is very important. Students need motivation to increase their participation. I plan to provide positive feedback at all times by finding what is right in a wrong response.

Differences between Synchronous and Asynchronous discussion. synchronous is with small groups. Asynchronous is with large groups.

I learned the benefits and challenges with synchronous and asynchronous class meetings along with the appropriate uses for each type of instruction to best benefit the learners.

Using online discussions can help engage all students, across all learning styles giving them a safe place to express their thoughts and opinions on the subject being studied. I would like to try incorporating this with my middle school students as a way to give them a more focused discussion time each week.

The concept of breaking the students into smaller groups is something I had not considered.

The different things to consider between asyncronous and syncronous are things I need to focus on.

I learned that it is imporatnt to provide guidelines and expecations for discussion group, a newer concept for those that have never had discussions in an online format. It will also be helpful to have rubrics for online discussions so students aware of the expecatations

I use asynchronous discussion forums much more than synchronous.  I am excited to have learned the formatting for sucessful learning in both situations of discussion.  I intend to use synchronous more now that I understand the guidelines better.

While e-learining during these last couple of months, I've noticed that if I don't give feedback on assignments, comments, or questions right away then I won't see many assignments turned in.  I'm constantly responding to assignments and questions in order to encourage more participation who tend to avoid the work.

I found it interesting that response to an asynchronous discussion is greater than a synchronous discussion

Fostering participation in asynchronous and synchronous discussion is important in the role of the instructor. Feedback for each student is also very important. Due to the various learning styles of students, course content should be delivered asynchronously. Synchronous discussions should encourage interaction at the beginning and end of each activity.

Keeping students engage and motivate is important.

I feel alittle more strategies may be needed with online discussions and its importance for student participation and success. I feared that the human connection may of been lost here, but with proper encouragement and participation on the part of the instructor should help keep the learning environment alive .

Realizing the difference between asynchronous and synchonus discussion, and the pros and cons of each

I learned that communication is different with online learning becuase in a class room students get verbal and noverbal communication where as on an online forum you have to be able to communicate in a different fashion. May be by using highlighted or bold words and the tone of the verbage is also impoertant to not send the wrong message.

I agree it is important to provide feedback to students is a timely marrer. Sometimes I get caught up in completing housekeeping duties that I have delayed feedback to my students.

I learned a lot about asynchronous and synchronous discussions and to best foster those discussions. I also learned about providing quality feedback to my students on their work.

I learned the importance of knowing the difference between asynchonous and synchronous and providing feedback.

I need to remember to provide feedback on a timely basis. Often times I get caught up in housekeeping matters that I forget to provide timely feedback.

Synchronous discussions are best for 1:1 while asynchronous is best for groups. Asynchronous promotes more participation. There are 3 types of learners that may need to be quickly identified, the avoidant, competetive and dependant
