Lev,
How do you determine which items are the highest priority items on your list?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I Create an activity log on my phone daily and follow it as much as I can.
Linda,
I have found that turning Outlook off except at times when I am "scheduled" to look at email has been effective.
Jeffrey Schillinger
I use outlook. Each class I teach is scheduled as well as meetings I must attend ( I set each with a reminder of about 15 minutes prior to.) I also input tasks (making quiz or exam; make copies of) for the day and or future days. I have a Lesson Plan form to keep me on target in each class, each day. I must admit, I am also a list maker. I do find that student emails and student interruptions can be cumbersome.
Michael,
How do you determine which pile things get into?
Jeffrey Schillinger
Three piles First pile things I have to do. Second pile things I would like to get done. Third Pile lets say trash.
Jennifer,
Most companies have several goals that may seem to conflict. Retention versus enrollment goals. Graduation versus bad debt. How does your supervisor select priorities?
Jeffrey Schillinger
Pick top 4 or 5 requirements that are critical to achieve company's goals that i have discussed with my supervisor.
Jody,
Does the deadline take priority over other most areas as you set priorities?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I like to prioritize by level of importance. Things that absolutely have to be done, get done first. I also like to manage my time by giving myself room to work with, just in case something goes wrong.I dont like to run out of time and get jammed up. I also plan ahead which helps to.
I use a wall calendar and a task list in the computer with reminders. I review these items on a daily basis to plan ahead.
Nicole,
It is difficult to try to set an agenda for the week that will not change. New things pop up and some priorities have to change.
Jeffrey Schillinger
I u
Make a to do list at the beginning of the week and prioritize according to importance. I do have to sometimes re arrange the list before the ending of the week depending on the time I need to spend on each task
Kim,
This is a common, but effective strategy. The act of writing the list takes off the pressure of remembering everything. Some people keep such lists on their phones.
Jeffrey Schillinger
Jarred,
How do you handle the inevitable interruptions and delays?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I review what needs to be done for the next day at the end of the day and create a to-do-list. When I don't create a to-do list I find that I forget what is my priority or send mental time trying to juggle the priorities in my head. Once I make a list I relieve myself of having to think about it all night long. I get to enjoy my time at home and I don't have to spend time the next day trying to remember what my priorities were.
My class I teach goes in 3 week blocks. I keep a spread sheet on what I need to get done with for the day and then check off one by one as each day goes so that I stay on time.
Whanda,
Is the "most challenging" always the most important?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I make a to-do-list then get the most challenging out of the way first.
Matthew,
Thanks. What are the most important things you consider, other than due date, when you prioritize items on your list?
Jeffrey Schillinger
