Maintaining Electronic Copies
The very nature of our business is to bring technology to the work place. One of the ways we do this is to educate students on how to move away from paper and store documents in databases.
Is is possible and realistic to have the forms maintained in a database instead of maintaining filing cabinets full of papers?
Timothy,
I agree with you.
Electronic records do appear to be the best way for hedging against loss of critical information when turnover inevitably occurs.
I am from the generation where there was only paper, but have seen how efficient paperless can be IF there's a good system for retrieving what you need from your server and/or the cloud when there's a request for those documents.

Timothy,
I am partial to electronic records. It is centered around consistency and brings availability.

Regardless of whether we go paperless or electronic, the key is organization and availability. You can have everything perfectly organized, but if it's needed and can't be found, what good is it?
I think electronic is nice for the fact that if you build a uniform system for storing data, you remove the human element out of equation to some degree. Therefore, turnover has minimal impact on your operations.
Chester,
Technology is the future. Paperless is definitely the future. Sometimes, having a good book in your hand is just as valuable.
