New Leads

I'm very new to the admissions position and even more foreign to the allied health industry. Having confidence and a lot of access to references has helped me transition to my new job. I can't know everything but I do appreciate the intranet and the phone conferences that we have, that help me stay compliant and to do my job comfortably.

Legna,
So exciting isn't it! Business administration finds itself integrated into every part of our life.

I'm new to admission and i love education. I have a chemistry geek and eventhough here all the programs are mostly business administration i found something new to learn. I was never interested in the business side of things but i got to say that i really enjoyed sitting in class and talkin gto the students. I've found that talking to student and letting them know that i am here to help them not to sale them a degree has helped me a lot, they trust me.
It is amazing what you can learn!

Theodore,

You definitely had a great experience! This will show (as it did here) when you speak to others about your experience.

That's what I did. I had no idea what our massage therapy program entailed or really anything about it, as there wasn't much literature on what takes place in the class or even after the student is done training. I sat in for a couple classes and also was lucky enough to get a free massage out of the deal, but only for the good of the student's training, of course. :)

Guy,
Make school a great place to be, to make a difference in the community in which we live, and establish relationships of a lifetime.

I too am new to admissions. Other than investing in current students (retention, etc...), what are some admissions recruiting / lead generation best practices?

Patty: Referrals are always a much better responsive prospect than a " cold" customer. Is there a place where I can learn much more about university relate referral programs? Thanks.

Hope: I would like to hear about your in-house referral program. Do you provide any allowable incentives to the students or faculty?
What do you give in return? Thanks.

Hope,
Many good leads start with your current students. Invest in them!

Dominic,
We do have the opportunity to grow and learn.

I have found that new leads are at home in our school. Having a good in-house referral program along with sustaining a great learning atmosphere works well.

We will never know ALL of the answers (sometimes the answers change too). The important thing to remember is you need to get the correct information. Never pull stuff out of thin air.

Nicole,

It is okay to say I'm not sure and need to find out. But find out right then, we never want a student to leave without the information they need.

I too am new to the admissions profession and was a bit overwhelmed in the beginning because of the amount of information I had to store in my memory file. You have to know your instituion inside out and not look clueless to prospective students. Having confidence is definitely essential. I am always nervous that a question I don't know the answer to will be asked.

farida,

Try getting to know your faculty and sit in on a few classes. You will be amazed!
