training employees
Do you think your institution does enough training in compliance?
This is an excellent response and I have advised those in our Admissions department to use it whenever they feel less than confident in answering any questions. I also urge them to share this information once they have the correct answer, as others may need the insight.
Esterina,
That is what our sector so exciting!
Since our industry is continuously making changes there is never enough compliance training.
Lance,
This is where individuals can bring everyone on the same page. Discussing changes and asking questions is a great way to learn and educate others.
While I feel my institution does a good job of keeping staff up to date on compliance issues, it is easy to miss or misunderstand something. Especially in education, where the rules and regualtions are vast and ever changing. I think the focus should be more on the individual (us), however, to continually seek out information to make sure that, on an individual level, we understand and carry out compliance regulations.
Susan,
The regs protect us all.
John,
This is a continual process. Keep up the pace of learning.
Yes, we have meetings and certifications that must be completed on compliance .
Joel,
Training must be continual and relevant.
Yes, we have cotinual training that is very beneficial and keeps us up to date. This allows us to present prospective students with accurate, up-to-date information.
Dale,
Continuous learning is important to keeping our skills and knowledge sharp.
there always can be improvement , but over all i think they do a very good job
For over twenty years I worked in a compliance driven environment and yet the educational environemnt is the most strick and I am very supportive of it.
Fernando,
Agreed..we have an obligation to ourselves and to the prospective student.
This is a true statement. I believe that we should all take it upon ourselves to stay current, even if your particular institution just does the minimum.
Right Patty, training in this business never ends because the DOE is ever changing. To stay in compliance with the DOE, we must have continued training or regulatory update training without question.
No. I think I have the compliance knowledge from years of experience and taking the initiative to educate myself. There are resources out there directed to FAA, Admissions, DOE, Inside Higher Ed etc, but many people look at their position as a job rather than a career. This can cause liability for a company that doesn't provide the tools or training for new staff to understand the dynamics of Higher Ed and the importance of compliance. I believe companies need to require compliance training to help their employees 1) do the right thing 2)remain in compliance and 3) to teach employees how their actions and being out of compliance can affect the organization as a whole. people are more apt to follow the rules if they understand the repercussions of breaking the rules.
Being compliant is very important. There's no such thing as too much training in being compliant in my opinion.
