Social networking has been a great success for our school. It has informed students about current events and where they can be reps when on the road at conferences. this has helped increase student activity at conferences. It has also allowed for prospect students to see if there friends are students with us or if they like us. It is a good referal tool and a chance to post student testimonals about our school.
I believe my employer uses advertising on certain social media sites; however, representatives are prohibited from soliciting prospective students on social sites as this violates specific ethical standards established by my employer.
Social Networking is becoming one of the most popular ways to reach out to people. Most people today would rather talk to people through a text message, a chat box, or email. I have noticed that a lot of people don't pick up their phones as much anymore. Using things like twitter, facebook, and chat boxes can definitely increase your chances of getting a hold of someone.
I agree with Avis comment. Teachers, Staff and Faculty should not be friends with students on Social Networking sites. Although, the internal site at school sounds like a great way to utilize a popular program and stay in contact with one another. Students seem to be more comfortable communicating on SN sites so maybe it would open up more room for classroom discussion.
Social Networking can be a very useful tool for admissions/marketing teams, especially for the re-entry coordinator. In the past, I have seen re-entry coordinators have a lot of luck contacting students who have had to take a leave of absence and would like to get back into and finish school. Facebook is a great way to reach out to students as well as providing a platform for students to ask questions about the school that they may not feel comfortable asking in person or on the phone.
Schools that are not able to connect with students through some form of social networking risk being seen as behind communication with students. Any student with an email account most likely is a part of a social or networking site. From a sales point of view this is an excellent way to create word of mouth advertising. Looking from a service point of view, student can quickly communicate questions, concerns, needs, as well as celebrate successes in their education.
I agree, it is always better to refer the students to an official college social media site that has already been approved by compliance.
Social networking has created another outlet to inform perspective students about institutions offerings, class start dates, scholarships, etc.
Our distance learning/virtual services division has benefited greatly from the additional opportunity to reach perspective students who carry on very busy lives.
Texting, Facebook, and Twitter have helped online students feel more connected to the school and other online students across the United States and Internationally.
Our marketing team has leveraged social media very well to reach students who use facebook, twitter, and text and their 1st option of communication.
At my college we have a social networking site for students as well. I have found that many distance learning students appreciate the sense of community they find with having access to the social networking site. They are able to network, communicate and view upcoming events located witin the college environment.
I agree. Social Networking has increased exposure to prospective students significantly.
Yes, my school advertises on and utilizes the tools of social media sites to recruit and provide information to potential students
Social networking has a tremendous effect on the schools marketing, advertising process. Yes, our school does have these such tools.
Yes I think it has had an impact on our students
Yes our school has a social networking site and it works great with prospective students. This generation is connected through technology and is a great way to stay in communication with students and prospective students.
Our school has a student commons area on Facebook specifically designed for our marketing team to keep up-to-date on the wants, needs and questions of current students.
So many people spend their times on social networking sites that I feel schools would be missing out without a presence there. Students can go to these sites and see the information that the schools marketing department puts out.
Our marketing department utilizes Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and You Tube to advertise to prospects.
At my college we just rolled out a new social networking site, that allows students to combine other social networking sites into one hub. Social networking is another way to communicate ideas, changes, and events to the student within the school.
Social networking has made a big impact on the prospective student base because the younger generation heavily relies on what they read from the postings on these sites.
I think this can have it's pros and cons due to influence, however it's a wonderful opportunity for current students to convey their experience.
My school utlizes these tools very often because we want to drive students to look at our pages and learn more about our school and what students are saying about it.
Yes, my organization has a marketing strategy in place to monitor and increase activity on social networking sights. I think social networking sites can be more of a liability because it increases the chance of misinterpreting facts leading to misrepresentation by a student informing friends of support or program offered by the college.
However, because Social networking sights are so common and popular my organization has actually created its own sight to help introduce a more social aspect of online learning. With this new sight student can add friends/ classmates that can be helpful in a group project. In addition the sight allows support to be more readily available for the students.
Does anyone else’s organization utilize social networking to help offer support to students?
Paula,
You have outstanding views and have some great ideas to utilize social networking sights! Have You ever utilized text messaging with Google voice, Facebook, or Skype to contact students?
